Best Money Saving Tip? Check Your Receipt

Feb2309

One of the simplest and easiest ways to save some money is to check your receipt BEFORE leaving the store. There’s nothing worse than getting home and realizing you were double charged for the ground beef you purchased at the supermarket.

Just the other day I went to the Price Chopper, and as usual I read through my receipt before leaving the store. The first thing I noticed was that I bought two identical items, yet I was charged $3.33 for one and $3.99 for the other. And then I noticed the cashier only rang in three of my $4.00 coupons instead of the four I know I gave her!

I recall going into Shaw’s to buy Green Giant boxed vegetables that were on sale for $1.00. Good thing I checked my receipt – I accidentally picked up two boxes of asparagus at $4.49 each! And who pays that much for a box of asparagus?

And here’s where it can really cost you. During a shopping trip to Lands End, the clerk inadvertently charged me for two pairs of shoes instead of one! This time I didn’t check my receipt before leaving the store (my kids were probably screaming) and I didn’t notice the error until several weeks later. Well, good luck getting that money back. That was one expensive pair of shoes, and they weren’t even for me!

So it’s worth taking the few minutes to review your receipt to ensure everything rang up just right. Make it a habit. Not doing so could cost you, and as we all know in this tough economy every little bit helps!
